Human Influence
The human influence on the red panda has tremendously declined their population and still does today. The humans living near their habitat, have clear cut the forest, or situated themselves in the same environment as the red pandas. By clear cutting these forests, humans are causing the red panda population to decline. Forests are cut down for timber, livestock grazing and agricultural purposes. These forests serve as a primary habitat for the red pandas and because of clear cutting and deforestation this will cause many of them to die due to the loss of their habitat. The forests also provides the food sources of the red panda, so these forests are crucial for their survival. Deforestation causes the red panda population to move until they find another habitat and a lot of red pandas die in this process, adding to the species decline in individuals. Furthermore, the population experiences other human involvement such as traps that are not designed for them, but nevertheless they get caught in them. Humans also capture the red pandas in order to use and collect their beautiful rusty-brown coloured fur pelts for fashion. Their pelts are used to make traditional Chinese hats and clothing. These are traditionally wore by newlyweds as a sign of a happy marriage. The red pandas are poached for their fur pelts. The images below show some clothing items that their fur pelts would be used for (http://www.edgeofexistence.org/mammals/species_info.php?id=19).
These factors have influenced the endangered status of the red panda. If humans preserve the land the red pandas live in, the species will have a greater chance of survival and reproducing successfully (redpandanetwork.org).
